Brandy is an Army veteran who was born and raised in the deep south of Louisiana. She and her four kids reside in Savannah, GA. As a survivor of MST, a subsequent PTSD diagnosis, and the decades-long medical issues stemming from her assault, Brandy has worked tirelessly as an outspoken advocate for other survivors, veterans, and service members.
Last year, at 41 years old, Brandy received her Juris Doctor from Mitchell Hamline School of Law. Additional education includes graduate coursework in strategic communications from Purdue University, a Bachelor of Journalism from Northwestern State University, military public affairs training at the Defense Information School, certification as an emergency manager from the State of Georgia, and qualifications as a civil and domestic mediator. Her successes include a statewide Top 40 Under 40 award in Georgia for her public relations work with veteran nonprofits, contributions on an Emmy Award-winning project, placement of a previous employer on the Inc. 5000 “fastest-growing company” list, and student bar election as representative to the American Bar Association.
Professionally, Brandy has worked extensively in communications and public information, helping multiple organizations and agencies navigate their crisis communications and reputation strategies. Her experience includes work in military/veteran/government, corporate, nonprofit, emergency management, homeland security, and public safety sectors, including a position as lead public information officer for a state emergency management agency. Brandy’s certifications as an emergency manager and POST Instructor allow her to manage crises and teach public safety professionals how to coordinate information efficiently and effectively during preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts.
In her spare time, she serves as a guardian ad litem for children in the Chatham County courts, the board chair for the South Fulton Mediation Center, a member of the Trust Network working on national initiatives for overcoming conflict through mediation, and an advocate for veterans, children, and disabled persons.
